The Business of Being Born: Dr. Chandra Adams Unpacks the Price of Motherhood
On May 28th, our June Women with Heart Honoree, Dr. Chandra Adams and Midwife Jennie Joseph, led a powerful and thought-provoking evening at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital titled Who Owns Birth?: Birth, Economics, and The Maternity Crisis. Melanie Lawson brought the entertainment and thought provoking questions as EMCEE for the evening. The event explored the complex and often overlooked ties between maternity care, economic disparities, and systemic challenges in maternal health—and it did not shy away from the hard truths.
Dr. Adams not only sparked meaningful conversations—she also sparked generosity, raising over $4,000 to benefit of Volunteers in Medicine. The evening was a resounding success, shining a spotlight on the urgent need for equity and compassion in maternal healthcare.
Adding even more sparkle to the night? Dr. Adams wore our signature Heart of Jacksonville diamond necklace, dazzling in every sense of the word as she paired it with a classic navy dress. Want a chance to wear this iconic piece yourself? Tickets are on sale now as we prepare for our 2026 Women with Heart celebration!
Thank you, Dr. Adams, for lending your voice, your brilliance, and your heart to this cause. You truly showed us what it means to birth change. If you are interested in contributing to Dr. Adams fundraising campaign click here.
