Tune Up, Don’t Tap Out: Men’s Health Month Is Your Cue to Check Under the Hood

Vroom vroom!  Gentlemen start your engines!  Just like taking care of a car, your health and wellness needs attention for running smoothly.

According to the CDC, men age 18 or older:

  • 14.7% are in fair or poor health

  • 30.9% have 5+ alcoholic drinks in one day at least once a year

  • 28.3% meet physical exercise guidelines

  • 12.5% currently smoke cigarettes

  • 41.6% are obese

  • 51.9% have hypertension or take high blood pressure meds

  • The 3 leading causes of male deaths:

  • Heart disease

  • Cancer

  • Accidents (unintentional injuries)

Men’s Health Month is vital because men are more likely than women for serious health problems like heart disease, cancer, and stroke.  This June, take charge of your health.

  • Get regular health check-ups & know your numbers: Blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose levels

  • Get screened for prostate, colorectal, lung, and testicular cancers based on age and risk factors.

  • Eat a balanced diet: Lean protein, vegetables, fruits, whole grains

  • Exercise at least 30 minutes on most days

  • Avoid harmful substances:  limit alcohol and avoid tobacco & recreational drugs

  • Prioritize your mental health

  • Stay connected with family, friends, and community

  • Sleep at 7-9 hrs every night

Talk to your healthcare provider to tune up your health.  Early detection and treatment can significantly improve health outcomes.

Don’t wait!  This is an opportunity to prioritize well-being.
