April 21st-27th is Volunteer Appreciation Week

“every day is volunteer appreciation day at Volunteers in Medicine”

Alexa Mejido, Director of Volunteers

Hi I am Alexa Meijido Director of Volunteers! April 21st-27th is Volunteer Appreciation Week but here at VIM we like to think that every day is Volunteer Appreciation Day. Because of the tireless work of over 240 volunteers a month we are able to serve over 1,800 patients annually, saving over $ 20,000,000 in medical expenses. Our volunteers treat every patient with the dignity and respect they deserve while also providing top notch medical care. Our patients can feel overwhelmed and our volunteers take the time to meet them where they are to ensure that they are meeting their health goals.

VIM staff work to make sure volunteers are supported and feel valued. We make efforts to get to know each volunteer on an individual level and to form personal connections outside of the clinic. Volunteers have dedicated spaces in the clinic where they can rest and recharge and have monthly gatherings at our clinic to network and connect with other volunteers who dedicate their time to VIM. VIM also hosts an annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner to recognize the time and commitment volunteers have given to the clinic.

Our clinic is always looking for more volunteers to join out team! Currently our clinic is looking to add members to the nursing and front desk team. We are also actively searching for specialty providers proficient in Gynecology, ENT, and Ophthalmology. Volunteer commitments are typically two 4-hour shifts a month for at least 6 months. If you or someone you know is interested please don’t hesitate to contact me at amejido@vimjax.org or fill out our online application here.
