Volunteer, Barbara Potter, receives the Local Heroes Award from the Ponte Vedra Beach Rotary and Ponte Vedra Recorder

On May 14th, at a special meeting of the Ponte Vedra Beach Rotary in partnership with the Ponte Vedra Recorder long time volunteer, Barbara Potter, received the Local Hero Award. The Local Heroes Award is given to recognize the “unsung heroes” who give back to the community and reflect the spirit of the Rotary Club’s motto, “Service Above Self.” 

Barbara Potter is a retired healthcare professional who has generously donated her time as a front desk volunteer at Volunteers in Medicine Jacksonville. Since beginning her volunteer service in July 2013, Barbara has contributed more than 2,133 hours, making a significant impact on the organization and the patients it serves.

As a front desk volunteer, Barbara has been an integral part of the clinic's success. She is widely recognized as one of the organization's most dependable, compassionate, and professional volunteers. She welcomes patients with a warm smile and is always eager to assist with their needs, helping create a positive and supportive experience for everyone who visits the clinic. Her expertise has become so refined that she now plays an important role in training new volunteers on front desk operations.

Barbara's exceptional skills and experience extend far beyond her volunteer work. Prior to her retirement in July 2016, she served as a Project Development Leader for St. Vincent's Healthcare. Throughout her career, she developed extensive expertise in patient relations, program development and implementation, business growth, team coaching and development, and customer service.

In recognition of her passion for volunteerism and dedication to helping others, Barbara received the prestigious Ivy Summerlee Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award in April 2016. This honor reflects her unwavering commitment, selflessness, and desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Barbara Potter is truly deserving of recognition as a Local Hero. Her hard work, reliability, compassion, and dedication have left a lasting impact on Volunteers in Medicine Jacksonville and the countless patients she has served. Through her exceptional volunteer service and lifelong commitment to healthcare, Barbara exemplifies the spirit of community service and inspires others to give back.
